AVMS Meeting Minutes March 9, 2026

Call to Order: Bob Turner, President, called the meeting to order at 6:30. Gail Boyle was absent.

Pledge of Allegiance

Invocation: led by Kelly Naughton.

Guest Speaker: There was no guest speaker this month.

Officer Reports

Treasurer’s Report – Steve Milbrod:

There was a beginning balance of $ 9,315.89 and we ended the month with $12,969.03

Deposits of $3,743.50 in gross revenue are as follows:

  • $1495.00 Dues collection
  • $35.00 Merchandise sales
  • $63.00 50/50 raffle proceeds
  • $1,727.00 Income from NATR 2026
  • $423.50 Flag fund donations

On the expense side there was a total of $$90.36 funds distributed for Night at the Races decor and shipping.

Secretary’s Report – Tom Gwiazdowski for Gail Boyle:

February 2026 AVMS meeting minutes were approved by the Board and are available on the AVMS website. Tom thanked Sherry who was this month’s sponsor and asked for other members to sign the upcoming monthly meetings sponsorship list, contact Gail.

Bob Turner

  • Bob spoke of the JFCS Veteran’s Standdown that occurred on February 21st at 2200 Ringling Blvd in the Health & Human Services Building. He thanked those who supported the event, and we received a nice thank you card from JFCS.
  • AVMS will have a tent at the DWLWR 10th anniversary celebration on March 21st called Del WebbStock. Gerry Northrup has the lead and is looking for help manning the table from 2PM to 6PM. We’ll have a 50/50 as well as the spinning wheel with many prizes.
  • Vietnam Veterans Day will be help on 28 March with a presentation in The Oasis followed by the flag lowering at the flagpole. Kelly will honcho the event.
  • Bob asked Mary Northrup to provide an update on the focus group to better serve our members and community. Mary’s notes are attached.
  • July 4th will be the 250th anniversary of the country’s Declaration of Independence and AVMS will line our community with flags. Exact dates and times from “flags in” and “flags out” TBD.
  • WebbFest on 25 April will not be held this year. There are too many other events going on, including Webbstock on the 21st of March as well as Vietnam Veterans Day on the 28th of March. Steve is working on setting up a Music Bingo.
  • Bob is working on a murder mystery event with the Del Webb players group. The exact date is TBD, but looking at November 2026.
  • Phil Orapallo spoke of the upcoming golf tournament which is a fundraiser for Operation Warrior Resolution. The Golf Tournament will be on 27 April 2026 at Kings Dunes golf course.
  • Planning for the AVMS calendar was mentioned to solicit suggestions to increase participation. One suggestion was a movie night or presentations by Vietnam Veterans,
  • Bob asked if there were any questions or suggestions from members. One suggestion was for veterans to speak of some of their awards and decorations at future meetings.

Steve Milbrod – Provided the Treasurer’s report earlier.

Gerry Northrup – The Vice President’s Corner

Gerry spoke of The Army Museum near Fort Belvoir, VA and showed a short video of it. Looks like an amazing place to visit.

50/50 – Pina
The 50/50 was drawn at the end of the meeting. A total of $106 was collected and $53 paid out.

Our next meeting will be Monday, April 13, 2026.
