A.V.M.S. Meeting Minutes July 14, 2025

Call to Order: Rich Greenberg, President, called the meeting to order at 6:30. Gail Boyle led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Invocation: Led by Bob Turner as Kelly McNaughton was on vacation.

Guest Speaker: Kendra Simpkins of Operation Warrior Resolution (OWR) spoke about their new property from which they will run the organization’s programs. The property is 6 acres and is located off Route 64. OWR provides holistic health treatment to those who served in the military and their spouses. The programs have a 90% success rate and helps decrease symptoms of trauma and depression. Their retreat programs have 2 houses and will hold a men’s program in September and women’s in October and have served over 2,000 people. OWR also offers couples retreat program.

Officer Reports

Treasurer’s Report – Steve Milbrod:

For the month of June, we had a beginning balance of $19,424.98 and we ended the month with $19,124.98.

Revenue:
No deposits were made.

Expenses:
$300.00 spent for the Fall Fiesta band deposit.

Secretary’s Report – Gail Boyle:

June 2025’s meeting minutes were approved by the Board electronically and are available on the AVMS website.

Other Business – Rich Greenberg

There will be a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 10:00 at the Circle of Honor.
Ringling will again be holding their annual Veteran Photo Program: War Paint and be looking for photos of Veteran’s to paint 10 x 10 portraits with the focus on Vietnam Veterans.
AVMS By-Laws are being updated and modernized to reflect the diversity of the membership and will be discussed at the September meeting. The most important change will be to ensure the President and Vice-President are Veterans. The membership will need to vote to approve all changes.
The Tribute to Heroes will be held November 9th on Veteran’s Day. Rich and Bob are the steering committee and will coordinate AVMS’ participation in the event at which Lakewood Ranch will make a donation to AVMS.
Rich thanked this month’s hosts who were the Goodgers.

Upcoming Events – Steve Milbrod

Del Webb Feud will be held at 7:00 PM on September 13th. Tickets are currently on sale electronically online via Zeffy at $20 for AVMS members. A team captain is able to complete the team’s application and form one of the 10 Feud team prior to the rest of Del Webb.
Member Appreciation Party is free and open to all AVMS members at 7:00 PM on September 20th. Snacks will be provided and the party is a BYOB. We also will be honoring the 250th year of the military.
Fall Fiesta with Bynge will be on October 4th.

Operation Thanksgiving – Rich Greenberg

Operation Thanksgiving will kick-off in September. Rich and Bob will be meeting with Publix who this year will be providing the Thanksgiving gift cards. They will also ask Publix if they will offer a matching program to increase this year’s available gift cards.

50/50 – Peggy

The 50/50 was drawn at the end of the meeting.

There will not be a meeting in August and our next meeting will be Monday, September 8th at 6:30 pm.
