AVMS Meeting Minutes, September 14, 2026

Call to Order: Bob Turner at 6:48pm

Pledge of Allegiance: Led by President Turner

Invocation: Kelly Naughton

President’s Remarks:

Two board members have resigned for personal reasons-there will be a special election to fill their remaining one-year terms and elections for two ‘retiring’ board members. Submit nominees to Bob by September 25th. Elections will be conducted before October meeting.

Volunteers are needed for the following upcoming events:

  • 10/17 LOTaPalooza; Steve Milbrod is the point of contact
  • Operation Thanksgiving; John Bastiani is the point of contact
  • 11/7 Lakewood Ranch Parade Color Guard-all members invited to walk
  • Date to be confirmed-Manatee County Concert Band Color Guard
  • 11/11 AVMS Ceremony, Flags across Del Webb, possible Breakfast at the Lake House

Bob spoke about the continuing ‘Flags on Homes’ program; the 9/11 ceremony and the 9/26 Festa Italiana being conducted in conjunction with the NY Tri-State Club.

Treasurer’s Report: Steve Milbrod

Since there was no August meeting, the report incorporated two months of activity:

Opening balance $18,975 closing balance $20,018; activity as shown below:

Inflows:

  • $1,018.00 Boomers Experience Online Ticket sales
  • $35 50/50 Raffle
  • $35 2026 Membership Dues
  • $590 Installing House Flags
  • $20 Flag fund Donation

Expenses:

  • $405.35 House flag install kits.
  • $174.90 Renew our AVMS web domain for 5 years.
  • $75 Annual FDACS solicitation registration

Open Discussion:

A spirited conversation as to how to increase meeting attendance and membership. Suggestions included guest speakers, coordinating with other interest groups etc.
