February 12, 2024 AVMS Meeting Minutes

Call to Order: Rich Greenberg -President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Secretary Dave Chervin led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Invocation: Bob Turner. Mary Northrup honored the passing of Toby Keith for his support for Veterans.

Welcome Remarks: New members were welcomed by Secretary – Dave Chervin.

Roll Call / Attendance: All Five Directors were present.

Officer Reports

Secretary’s Report: Dave Chervin announced that January 2024 meeting minutes were approved by the Board electronically and are available on our Website. Minutes will be posted on the A.V.M.S. website.

Membership Roster – Dave Chervin reported as of the meeting we have 15 new members for the 2024 calendar year. Total membership is 321.

Treasurer’s Report: Steve Milbrod reported:

Opening balance – $3,482.24
Ending Balance – $9,922.74

Revenues:
$3,450 – Dues
$85 – Donations
$50- 50/50 proceeds
$3,640 – Del Webb Feud proceeds
$300 – Friends of AVMS

Expenses:
$950.00 – Operation Warm Heart (charity partner at MacDill AFB)
$134 – replacement of Army ceremonial flag

New Business

  • Joe Ward was honored as member of the Quarter.
  • Rich spoke about a scholarship program being planned for JROTC. Dave Chervin will oversee a committee.
  • Rich discussed reported that Tunnels to Towers will build 80 units in Manatee County. There will be a groundbreaking in May.
  • Steve gave an update on upcoming events in 2024:
    – 4/27 – Spring Webb Fest (with One Night Rodeo band)
  • Deb Distefano reported that a golf tournament is being planned in September. We have a quote from Palm Aire and one pending from Rosedale. A planning meeting will be held in March.
  • The next Windsor breakfast for Veterans will be March 13th.
  • The LWRCA Tribute to Heroes will be held the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. More information forthcoming.
  • TBD – Lip Sync
  • Rich spoke briefly a proposed mentoring program for veterans that is being developed in conjunction with the local Judiciary system. You do not have to be a veteran to participate.
  • John Bastiani spoke about updates to our website. The left side of the home page now shows a recap of prior year activities. The right side displays the full year calendar of events.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday March 12th at 6:30 pm. There will be speakers from M.O.T.S. and JCFS.

Motion to close the meeting at 7:30 was made by Rich Greenberg and seconded by John Bastiani.
