AVMS Meeting Minutes May 12, 2025
Call to Order: Rich Greenberg, President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Rich led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Invocation: Lead by Kelly Naughton. Kelly also spoke most eloquently about her father and his service in the Army and at Arlington’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Guest Speaker: Phil Orapallo – Phil spoke about the April 24th golf outing held at the Ritz-Carlton to benefit Operation Warrior Resolution. Phil also presented a video which showcased all the services Operation Warrior Resolution provides to veterans.
Officer Reports
Treasurer’s Report – Steve Milbrod
For the month of April, we had a beginning balance of $14,215.33 and we ended the month with $20,632.77.
We deposited $7,556.28 in gross revenue with:
$445.28 – Dues
$73.00 – 50/50 proceeds
$260.00 – Donations
$400.00 – Corporate Sponsorship
$5,850.00 – WebbFest proceeds
$528.00 Night at the Races proceeds.
On the expense side there was a total of $1,138.00 spent.
$438.00 – Expenses for Night at the Races
$700.00 – Balance due for the WebbFest band
Secretary’s Report – Gail Boyle:
There were 3 Board Members present. Bob Turner and Deb DiStefano were out. Last month’s AVMS Meeting Minutes were approved by the Board electronically and are available on the AVMS website.
Other Business
Scholarship Presentation – Rich presented this year’s scholarship award to Michael Wagner who is headed to USF in August. Michael’s essay was about POWs and MIAs. Michael spoke and thanked AVMS for the award and was joined by many of his family members.
Introduction of Bayview Parish Guest – Rich introduced the guest who is interested in learning about AVMS and the possibility of forming a chapter in his Del Webb.
Webb Fest 2025 – Steve Milbrod presented a summary of this year’s event which netted $5,000 and he thanked all the hard working volunteers. The band Bynge was well received and Steve will look to retain them for Fall Fiesta.
May Events – Rich Greenberg
- The funeral for Joe Colella will be held on May 13th with Rich driving and leaving at noon
- The Missing Man table is set up at the Oasis to honor fallen soldiers with a Del Webb connection. Names will be read at the Memorial Day ceremony.
- Volunteers are needed for Flags across Del Webb on May 22nd and again on May 28th.
- Homes for Heroes will take place on May 23rd at 9:00am. Rich and John Bastiani will meet with Rose of Pulte.
- A meeting requested by Pulte will be held May 23rd at 1:00 at Del Webb Catalina to introduce AVMS and potentially do joint events.
- The Memorial Day ceremony will be hld on May 26th inside the Oasis and then move outside to lower the flags.
- Mission Barbecue will be providing free sandwiches during Armed Forces Week.
50/50 – The 50/50 was drawn at the end of the meeting by Michael Wagner, our scholarship recipient.
Our next meeting will be Monday, June 9th at 6:30 pm.
